Children’s Program Guidelines

The Dunellen Public Library strives to make it’s children’s programming an enjoyable experience for all that will lead to a love of books, thirst for reading, and continued use of the library.

Please help your child and all our children reach this goal by following the guidelines below:

1. Explain to your child beforehand what they can expect to take place in the program they are attending.

2. Explain to your child how they are expected to behave during the program and help out during the program by modeling the same behavior.

3. Explain to your child that they should not bring anything into program room. All toys, bags, etc should remain with you outside. If a child accidentally brings in items they will be asked to place items on table away from activity to avoid causing a distraction.

4. Please make sure that children are prepared to stay in the room during the program. Bathroom visits should be made before your library visit or feel free to use our restrooms prior to the program.

5. Please remember that there is no food or drink allowed in the library unless food is a part of the library program and is provided by staff. Please model this behavior by not eating or drinking in the library.

6. An adult must remain in the library so they will be available when necessary in case of sudden illness, early dismissal, etc. An adult is also required to supervise accompanying siblings.

7. Please remind children attending programs and all accompanying siblings to use indoor voices, to be respectful of library property (toys, books, materials), not to run or be disruptive to other library patrons or staff and please model this behavior for them.

Please feel free to ask our staff for any help you need in making your library visit a successful and happy one!

Thank you for your help in making programming and Library visits pleasant for everyone.
